1 killed, 4 hurt in shooting at outdoor gathering in VA, police say

On June 1, 2025, a tragic shooting occurred in Danville, Virginia, resulting in one death and four injuries. The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. during a large outdoor gathering near the intersection of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive. Upon arrival, police found 22-year-old Jay’Shaun Tiejae White of Hurt, Virginia, deceased in the front passenger seat of a Chrysler sedan, having suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. The presumed driver, a 26-year-old man from Java, Virginia, was located nearby with a gunshot wound and transported to SOVAH Health Danville for treatment. Shortly after, three additional individuals—a 31-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman, all from Danville—arrived at the hospital with gunshot injuries. The woman was treated and released, while the two men were transferred to other medical facilities.

Investigations suggest that gunfire was exchanged between individuals inside the Chrysler and attendees at the gathering. Authorities have arrested 26-year-old Juwan Montel Baker of Danville in connection with the shooting. Baker faces multiple charges, including discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The Danville Police Department continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to come forward
