Manchester United

Antoine Semenyo is a good player

Antoine Semenyo is a good player, but I’m not convinced he should be Manchester United’s main focus in January.

When you look at the squad, we already have Cunha, Šeško, Mbeumo, Mount and Amad, and those attackers are finally starting to click.

Adding another forward as a priority into that mix doesn’t address the biggest issues we’re still seeing every week.

If we’re being honest about priorities, whether in January or over the next two windows, central midfield has to come first.

That’s where United still lack control, ball progression and consistency, especially in games where we’re supposed to dominate.

Fixing that area would elevate everyone else on the pitch, including the attackers we already have.
That said, Semenyo’s profile is actually quite appealing. He’s direct, physical, adaptable and his game would suit almost any system.

Whether Amorim is still the manager in a year or not, Semenyo would probably fit without too much adjustment.
But that’s exactly why he feels like a better fit for clubs like City, Spurs, Liverpool or even Arsenal, teams with settled midfield structures that just need another attacking option to rotate or add variety.
For United right now, the smarter move is strengthening the spine of the team before adding another attacker.
Semenyo is a good footballer, but he doesn’t feel like the signing that moves this team forward in the areas that matter most. ✌️😍
