Alexander Isak’s words come back to haunt him with awful Liverpool record after Newcastle exit

Alexander Isak’s words after leaving Newcastle United may have come back to haunt him as the striker broke an unwanted Premier League record.

The Sweden international left St James’ Park in the summer to join the reigning league champions in a deal worth £130million.

Isak expressed a desire to leave Newcastle during the summer transfer window, which led to the striker eventually getting his wish and moving to Anfield.
Before that, Isak did not feature during any pre-season matches for the Magpies and trained away from his teammates as the saga rumbled on.

Saturday saw Isak and Liverpool on the receiving end of another defeat as the Merseyside outfit lost 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest.

Isak started the game before being substituted in the second half, and the defeat also saw Isak break an unwanted Premier League record.

According to OptaJoe, Isak has now become the first player in Premier League history to lose all four of his opening four matches as a starter for Liverpool.

This statistic has seen Isak’s comments after signing for Liverpool come back to haunt him, with the striker outlining his ambition to “create history” following his Newcastle exit.

“It’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is. The history of the club,” Isak told Liverpool’s club website back in September.

“Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies.

“That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.

“I feel like this is the next step for me in my career. I’m super-happy that I’ve been given this chance and I’m very motivated to do something well with it.”
