Mason Mount might actually be the smartest replacement for Mbeumo during AFCON

You might not agree with me, but Mason Mount might actually be the smartest replacement for Mbeumo during AFCON and the more you think about it, the more it makes sense.
Mount has played on the right before, both at Chelsea and at United and every time he’s been used there, he’s shown he understands that role better than people give him credit for.
He isn’t a traditional winger, but he’s a smart, dynamic midfielder who can operate as a “right 10,” drift wide, link play and still give the team the work-rate and intelligence the system needs.
The thing about Mount is that he brings control. He knows when to come inside, when to stretch the pitch, and when to press aggressively.
He gives you creativity without losing discipline, and that’s something we’ll definitely need when Mbeumo isn’t around to provide the direct threat on that flank.
And with Amad also going to AFCON, having a right-sided player who understands combinations, timing, and movement becomes even more important. Mount fits that perfectly.
He’s comfortable receiving between the lines, he connects midfield to attack, and he makes the players around him better because of how smart he is with the ball.
If Amorim gives him that spot during AFCON, we won’t lose spark on the right, we might actually gain more control and balance going forward.
Mount starting on the right during AFCON makes more sense than people realise. ❤️
