Ronaldo Nazário Disputes Cristiano Ronaldo’s Greatest Player Claim

For Ronaldo Nazário, Cristiano Ronaldo is not the greatest footballer of all time. In an interview with ESPN, the Brazilian legend responded to CR7’s recent declaration that he is the best player in history.

While acknowledging the Portuguese star’s exceptional career and goal-scoring prowess, Ronaldo believes he does not top the list of football’s greatest.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has a fantastic career. He has achieved exceptional things, he has scored a lot of goals, whether as a left winger or a striker. It is not easy. He is certainly one of the best in football history, but is he the best? I do not agree, even if I respect his opinion. I put him in the TOP 10, easily,” he explained.

The former Brazilian striker then shared his own ranking of football’s legends. “Pelé number one for sure, Messi and Maradona, equal, Zico, Romário, Cristiano Ronaldo, Van Basten, Zidane, Figo and Rivaldo,” he listed. While CR7 remains among the all-time greats, he does not top the hierarchy according to Ronaldo Nazário.

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário, in a recent interview, disagreed with Cristiano Ronaldo’s self-claim as the greatest player in history, placing him in the top 10 but stressing humility and peer recognition.
Nazário praised Cristiano’s achievements while noting his preference for others to affirm greatness rather than self-proclamation. The remarks, shared widely on X, highlight ongoing debates about football’s all-time greats, contrasting stats like goals with intangibles such as World Cup success.
